Lead Tap Faculty - 509collective
Tap classes introduce students to the technique, vocabulary, and traditions of tap dance. At every level of instruction, dancers develop musicianship and showmanship as they acquire the important skills of rhythmic precision, clarity of sound, and personal style. Students will progress through levels, learning increasingly complex steps, combinations, and choreography. Instruction pays equal attention to the development of the acoustic and aesthetic skills needed to be dynamic tap dancers. The curriculum draws from the full spectrum of the genre, including rhythm tap and show tap. Dancers will learn the precise upper body movements and performance aesthetics of Broadway styles while implementing the intricate rhythmic combinations of hoofin’. Instruction is rooted in the social traditions of the form combined with somatic movement exploration.

Spring Dance Concert
Joseph’s thesis production, in partial fulfillment of his M.F.A. in Choreography from Jacksonville University, will premiere at the annual Spring Dance Concert at Gonzaga University. His graduate research explores accessible choreographic aesthetics for concert tap dance with a methodology inspired by 4E Cognition and a somatic-embodied approach to tap dance pedagogy.
The culminating work: Curiouser & Curiouser, is a 25-minute all-tap-dance retelling of Alice in Wonderland with a 1920’s Vaudevillian aesthetic. This original piece features a score by composer Annabella Gelmetti and a company of ten Gonzaga University tap dancers.
The Spring Dance Concert will also include ballet, jazz, contemporary, and musical theatre works inspired by the 1974 World’s Fair.
Musical Theatre Dance Workshop
Joseph will be teaching a musical theatre dance workshop as part of the KCACTF Region 7 Festival 56.
Workshop Abstract: “A high energy musical theatre dance workshop open to all levels of experience. A water bottle is recommended.”
