‘The Garment of Praise’ delivers a message that heals from the heart
“Water has a lot of biblical reference to it,” said Gonzaga dance instructor, Karla Parbon, who is choreographing the opera with her colleague, Joseph Lyons-Wolf. Dancers will portray multiple characters.
“It’s more of a contemporary style of dance … they’re constantly interchanging,” she said.
At the root of this ancient story is a message of the divine.
“Nobody can define what the divine is,” Ray said. “I think we make our guesses around the world that we believe or we hope that it is love itself. And, when any of us experience love itself, I think we all feel that we have experienced something of the divine.”
Musical Theatre Dance Revue to bring musical songs to Magnuson stage
“It’s really exciting because all the choreographers have very different areas that they're experts in, so we have some pieces that are more hip-hop forward, some that are more ballet forward, some pieces that are more modern forward,” Lyons-Wolf said. ”To work with a cohort of dancers that have great knowledge in many different areas has been really cool, and I think it’s been a great opportunity for them to learn from each other.”
The Glover Mansion hosts Kindling Dance's haunted-house performance inspired by its storied history
“A long hallway upstairs features a tap duet that Lyons-Wolf says is inspired by the creepy twins in The Shining.”
"As a choreographer for this project, what's been cool is being able to be inspired by this space and to create work in a space that's very different from what we put on a stage. It's been really fun to use the body in a way that I don't usually get to use in performance for tap dance," he says. "I think for the audience too, it's going to be a new experience of getting to be that close to dance and getting to have it like all around you.”
Whitworth University Theatre presents the fall Main-Stage Production Into the Woods
“We are pleased to welcome guest director and choreographer Joseph Lyons-Wolf. Lyons-Wolf is an interdisciplinary artist and physical storyteller. His core principles as an artist are inspiring creative curiosity, fostering belonging and cultivating work that is rooted in joy. He believes in a fully collaborative artistic process that honors the unique voices of all involved.”
Timeless themes bloom in Gonzaga's rendition of 'Spring Awakening'
“The choreography and dancing proved instrumental to the plot, conveying the play’s messages as clearly as the songs and dialogue. Through contemporary, interpretive movements and sharp, fast-paced moves, the ensemble blew me away with dancing that was at once completely individual to each character and in perfect synchronization with the rest of the dancers.”
Theatre, Dance and Music Departments Collaborate On "Spring Awakening"
“For the creative leadership team and the students alike, it has been an enlightening and welcomed challenge to navigate the intricacies of this material. The show engages with topics like sex, abuse, and suicide. 'Spring Awakening' was created with the intention of sparking healthy conversations about difficult content.”

Creatives and cast describe their cross-departmental, cross-disciplinary production
“Students and faculty from Gonzaga University came into the SPR performance space and the KPBX studio to preview their new production of the coming-of-age musical Spring Awakening, which opens next week.
In the studio were Leslie Stamoolis, Gonzaga Theatre Chair, who is producing and designing costumes for the show; Joseph Lyons-Wolf, a member of the Gonzaga Dance faculty, who is the show's director and choreographer…”
Blossoming into adulthood at Gonzaga's rendition of 'Spring Awakening
“I think Spring Awakening at its core, is a cautionary tale of the devastation that comes from a lack of compassion towards our youth, but it's also a celebration of hope and what is possible when we allow our children to spread their wings and become their truest selves."

Surrounded by the Magic of Disney
“They learn new techniques and tips for performing and becoming a character and, most importantly, leave with memories!”
From the Studio: Smokey Joe’s Cafe
“Deborah Rambo Sinn, Musical Director and Accompanist, Joseph Lyons, Director and Choreographer, and Josie Brett, actor, singer, and dancer, visit the studio to discuss the show and preview some of the classic pop songs from the show.”
Family Nature Drives Mamma Mia
“Weddle’s co-director/co-choreographer Joseph Lyons had seen the musical and felt it was under-choreographed, so he and Weddle decided to take advantage of the fact that there were two choreographers on hand.”
